Small inexpensive M.2 Case that works well
For the price this is a good M.2 NVMe case. I I would not use the USB4 cable that came with it. It "works", but but does not connect using Thunderbolt 3 port on my Dell Precision Laptop, it connected at about USB 3.2 10 Gbps speed. I recommend a 3 foot Thunderbolt 3 or 4 cable at minimum, not the included cable. What I love about this case is that it looks cool! and it is small and doesn't take up much space! You can easily put this in your pocket or purse or laptop bag! You might need and extra thermal pad - I added one, but it did not touch the outer heatsink on the case -you may need two thermal pads for proper cooling (it comes with one). Here are my CrystalDiskMark8 Speed tests for it: 1) Fanxiang S880 4TB Thru Orico TCM-U4 thru Dell Precision TB3 port 2649.66 MB/s read 2438.38 MB/s write using true TB4 Cable 2) Fanxiang S880 4TB Thru Orico TCM-U4 thru Dell Precision TB3 port 535.81 MB/s read 485.88 MB/s write using the included Orico USB4-Cable - might be connecting via USB 3.x instead of TB3 3) CrystalDiskMark_Fanxiang S880 4TB Thru Orico TCM-U4 thru Asus USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 20Gbps (on my Asus X670E-E Motherboard) 2130.56 MB/s read, 2068.88 write 4) CrystalDiskMark_Fanxiang S880 4TB Thru Orico TCM-U4 thru Asus USB 3.2 Gen 2x1 10Gbps 1097.251 MB/s read, 1092.384 MB/s write. As you can see from my speed tests there is not a huge difference between the USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 20 Gbps and the Thunderbolt 3 speeds. But a lot of the Thunderbolt Cases do not have great speed. Newer ones are coming out that are much faster! I have yet to test this device with a good thunderbolt on my Asus X670E-E motherboard (using AMD Ryzen 7950X3D which is fast). My Asus ThunderboltEx 4 card does not support thunderbolt very good. Am waiting to get my ordered HP Thunderbolt 4 PCIe card to test it to see how fast this works. Now this Fanxiang S880 4TB M.2 card runs at 7271.242 MB/s read and 6187.193 MB/s write when it is in my Asus Hyper M.2 x 16 Gen 4 Card and probably the same speed on my Asus Motherboard PCIe 5.0, so this M.2 is no slouch at speed. It is WAY faster than is needed for this Orico 50Gbps M.2 NVMe SSD case. Consider buying this case if you only have USB 3.2 Gen 2 10 Gbps or 20 Gbps ports.
