The HP Thunderbolt Dock is an Excellent Product
Other reviews mentioned difficulties with connectivity. I use a HP ZBook 15 G6 & this was a true 'plug & play' set up for me, no tinkering or coercing required. Regarding the top of the unit being the on/off control & thus a nuisance, to me the purpose of a dock is to connect all static devices to the dock in order to free up the laptop ports which then can be used for interim connections. I have the unit with audio which is by default, the non-audio version was not immediately available, but I have ended up using it frequently. In addition, the compact cube design is a nice evolvement from prior 'clunks' & is aesthetically pleasing. It actually provides you with more desk space when you are not using your laptop.

Modern, Sharp Docking Station
Worked right away with no hiccups with an EliteBook 745 G6. Audio sounds good and can get far louder than cheap 2.0 desktop speakers that are passively powered. Having two USB Type-C ports is nice, but only have three Type-A ports is a real bummer... kind of ridiculous having to run a USB hub off of this when it should be the sole USB hub. Even if two additional USB Type-A ports were just USB 2.0, that would be fine as many input peripherals like keyboard and mice are still USB 2.0, as well as wireless KB/mouse receivers. Also, I find it silly to have one side of this unit only have one port -- a USB Type-A port. I have this pushed up against my desk wall to save space, so that port is blocked. The USB Type-C PD cable that connects to the laptop sticks out the opposite end of all the ports, so you are already guaranteed to have two side of this unit having cables coming out. The USB ports are nit-picking but still enough for me to dock this unit one star. Functionally, it's an awesome dock; I'm glad we're going with these units over the regular USB Type-C docks. I do feel the higher cost is warranted, especially if speakers are desired. There's also a 230W version of this, but I think it's only supposed to be used with HP workstation laptops and desktops. This unit provides more than enough power to quickly charge your standard ProBook and EliteBook models and power all your hungry devices on the USB ports. I quickly charged my Asus Zenfone via the USB Type-C w/PD port while recharging the laptop at the same time. Overall, I'm pleased with this until and feel it's a worthy successor to the Slim Dock 2013 that it's replacing. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Awesome product, but microphone is barely passing
This docking station is great. It takes up minimal desk space, and is godlike for work from home setups. I have it connected to 3 external monitors, Ethernet, and wireless mouse and key. The speaker is very loud with pretty good sound quality. The fact that its type c with charging means it can charge small to mid power laptops that have a type c port without a separate charger. My only complaint with this item is that they opted for a VGA port instead of HDMI, and that the Microphone does not pick up sound very well, I would rate the microphone in the low to mid range of quality microphones. To have good sound in the microphone, you need to make sure theres no background noise, as well as make sure you are within about 2 foot range from the dock and speak loud.

    Great solution
The HP Thunderbolt dock has been a welcome, and elegant solution for my crowded desk. I work with my MacBook Pro in a stand and connected to a monitor and other peripherals. It's always been a bit of a pain because that involves dongles and cords draped across my desk. This dock has let me get rid of all those attachments and given me the extra ports Macbook lacks. I also use Zoom a lot and the HP dock's audio capability has been wonderful in that sense. One caveat here is that I don't run dual monitors so I'm not sure how well that setup would work - but this is perfect for connecting a docked laptop to an external monitor. Finally the HP dock itself is sleek and looks great on my desk. Overall I'm very happy with this product.

Great if you have to connect to a lot of ports
I had no problems connecting this to my MacBook Pro and second monitor. My MacBook has no usb or other ports so this dock is super helpful so I don't have to have a bunch of adapters. I usually have my headphones, monitor, and phone charger plugged into my laptop. When I have to move my laptop to another room to work, I have to unplug everything. With the dock, I can just disconnect the dock and be on my way. Also, to connect the audio speaker to zoom or google hangout, make sure to change your audio and speaker settings to go to the dock and not the default MacBook. It's way louder and nice for listening to music or watching videos.

Really cleaned up the cord clutter at my desk
This Thunderbolt dock has really been a game changer when it comes to cleaning up the cord clutter at my workspace. Before I had cords everywhere that connected via USB to my desktop monitor and laptop. All these cords connected my printer, speakers, headset, scanner, mouse, and tablet to my laptop. So it was a real tangled web of cords that took up so much space and looked so messy and ruined my minimalist look I was trying to achieve. I am somewhat tech savvy but even I was surprised at how easy this dock connects all my devices together and how it took almost no time at all to clean up the cord mess. The sound quality on this Thunderbolt dock is excellent for the size of this device, it is small about the size of a three wick jar candle. When I take calls on it the voice quality is clear, not muffled and there's no distorting. Other audio like music has a clear rich sound that sounds as if it is being played by much larger speakers. There is handy call, mute, and volume control buttons on top of the dock that are also very handy to use quickly and conveniently. Overall I couldn't be happier with the Thunderbolt dock and wish I would have had this sooner, it has really made my working from home a lot more clutter free and enjoyable.

    Big features, small package
I have this connected to my 2018 Macbook Pro with external monitors, keyboard, mouse, and other peripherals for my software engineering work. The dock is able to charge my Mac, unlike my previous dock and the Audio conference feature has been excellent. The only downside I have, and I knew this before purchasing, was that the Macbook will not run dual monitors on the dock in extended mode. Therefore, I have to have 1 monitor plugged into the dock and the other directly into the Macbook to get both monitors to work in extended mode, but since I no longer need a separate charge cable it has not been a hinderance. Overall I am extremely pleased with this dock and intend to use it for as long as possible.

    Amazing
So happy that I purchased the HP Thunderbolt Dock w Audio. It's a game changer for working remote. The built in speaker and microphone is amazing, no more calling in to meeting using a cell phone. It connects directly to Webex and other platforms. No need for head phones or ear buds. The background noise canceling feature works great. This dock is a must if you work from home. Plus you get all the docking connections. It really is a perfect setup all in a small box.

    Excellent Device
Just finished deploying 12 of these in our office as part of a full office technology refresh and I and my users absolutely love them. We had some issues with three of them which HP's support quickly took care of by shipping out new units. Before diving into the performance of the devices, let's review what all the capabilities of the Thunderbolt Dock are first. The front of the dock has a short (~1m) Thunderbolt/USB type-C cable coming out of it that you connect to your laptop. This cable looks like it is hardwired but it is actually just plugged into a USB type-C port on the bottom of the dock that is covered with an easily removable base (1 simple Phillips-head screw). I replaced this with a longer USB type-C cable which gives a lot of flexibility with where to place your laptop. The front of the dock also contains another USB type-C port. The right side of the device has a 1/8" combination headphone jack, a traditional USB 3 type-A port that supports power delivery, and a security slot for using a locking cable to secure the device to a desk. The left side of the device is devoid of ports. The top of the device includes six (6) touch-sensitive buttons. The five (5) buttons across the front of the device provide controls for (from left-to-right): - Skype for Business/Teams Call Answer - Mute (this mutes the built-in microphone array) - Volume Down (this decreases the Windows master volume level by two) - Volume Up (this increases the Windows master volume level by two) - Skype for Business/Teams Call End The final button is located at the back of the top of the device and functions as the power button for the connected laptop. On the back side there are two full-size DisplayPort ports, two (2) Thunderbolt/USB type-C ports with power delivery, two (2) USB 3 type-A ports, a VGA port, the power connector, and a gigabit Ethernet port. Everything works great but especially the speakerphone features. I've used this for Zoom and Google Meet meetings and everyone I've met with has remarked at how clear I sound. The speaker portion is good as well and will get quite loud. BONUS: This works great with Macs as well! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
