“A Life Ascending” follows mountaineer Ruedi Beglinger and his family in the wake of a catastrophic avalanche in the remote mountains of British Columbia, where they reside. The movie is visually stunning; the cinematography truly captures the natural beauty of the mountains and glaciers in all their grandeur. However, the awesome scenery does not detract from the portrayal of the Beglingers' intimate family relationships. The unique life of the family makes this film a worthwhile exploration of the often-tumultuous relationship between humans and their environment.
