I use this pan daily. Nonstick is good and I like that I can use dish liquid if needed and not worry about rusting.

Pretty piece of functional cast iron
I was a little skeptical about this pan because most of the 5 start reviews for Pioneer Woman Cast Iron cookware were collected via Sparks Reviews program. I've owned an enameled 5 qt. Dutch oven from the Pioneer Woman from this collection and it was awesome, I gifted it to a friend when I moved and she loves to this day. I decided to give this pan a try since it was on clearance and I am replacing my green pans, after 3 years of use the coating on them is peeling off. This 12" pan is lighter than a Lodge pan of similar size, which could be either a pro or con for a buyer, for me it is a plus. I don't enjoy doing a lot of heavy lifting while cooking. When it arrived, I washed it as per the instructions, and seasoned it 3 times before I used it, because you should do that with any cast iron pan that you bring home for the first time. So far this pan has worked very well for me. I did leave it sitting overnight without cleaning it once, I regretted that in the morning. It did rust, I thought I would see pitting in the iron, as experienced by a another reviewer, I had to scrub and re-season it all over again. Since then I have not had any issues with it, and I haven't seen any signs of pitting or rust, I use it multiple times a week. It cleans up very easily with hot water and a scrub brush (or a pan scraper). I just purchased the Pioneer Woman 3 piece cast iron set to have more sizes, since I only have this pan, and 2 larger Dutch ovens to work with. I will leave an honest review of 3-piece set, once I've used them for a while. I love the look of the butterfly on the long handle, and the shape of the extra handle is larger and extends further out from the pan, more than a Lodge. The shape of the extra handle is what actually attracted my attention when I was pan shopping, it is larger than other pans I've looked at. The extra handle is large and leaves enough room for me to get a good grip on both sides of the pan without accidentally touching the hot sides of the pan. Since cast iron is heavy to begin with, and the handles get very hot, being able to get a firm grasp on the handles when I need to move a pan is a deal breaker for me. I don't want to burn the top part of my fingers every time I have to move a hot pan. The only con, for me, and probably others too, it does have a rougher finish than a Lodge pan, (which is why I gave it 4 stars), not by too much though. Mine is seasoned well, so the roughness is not too big of an issue. I suspect getting a really smooth finish will take a little longer to build up than a Lodge pan. Other than that it is a pretty piece of cast iron that does what I need it to do. If you are looking for a starter cast iron pan, or you just want to add another cast iron piece to your kitchen, this would be the one to get.

I love my new iron skillet. It is pre seasoned which is one of the best things about it and I love the other handle because I have so much trouble holding a heavy skillet now days.

    Best Cast Iron Frying Pan
I love everything about this line of frying pans. At 80 years old I find them easy to use and clean. Wonderful design was thoughtfully put into it's manufacturing and is the best on the market.

    12 Inch Cast Iron Skillet
When I received the package this skillet came in, it seemed to be about three feet long. But there was sufficient packing around it. Not that I think you would have so much to worry about this cast iron skillet getting dinged or cracked or broken. But it was very nicely packed. It's a nice big skillet, and it is heavy, I am so glad there is a handle to hang on to on the front to pick it up. It's not easy picking up a skillet this big with two hand by using the back handle. I know you are supposed to re-season it first, but I wanted to go ahead and use it because it says its pre-treated. So I figured it was safe enough to cook in for a couple of meals. So the first thing I did was to cook up some sausage and eggs. I haven't had a good cast iron skillet in a while, I had forgotten how good things taste cooked in a cast iron skillet. My bacon was crisp and my eggs fried up beautifully. Nothing stuck to the pan and when I finished I wiped it clean with a paper towel then I lightly wiped it down with a tad bit of bacon grease. Then I decided to cook up some Spanish rice and my rice turned out beautifully. I am happy with my skillet and it may be heavy but when it comes to cast iron the heavier the better quality of the skillet. You can see how big the skillet is, and you can tell that it is by "Pioneer Woman" for when you flip it over the skillet is engraved on the bottom. I love the design on it. It feels so personal being personalized like that. If you like cast iron skillets, these are definitely very well made, I don't know how you could go wrong with cast iron. It won't break, bend or leak, you don't have to worry about poking a hole in it. I know I will enjoy mine and I highly recommend the Pioneer Women Skillet.

    Great Cast Iron Fry Pan
The Pioneer Woman Timeless Pre-Seasoned Plus 12 Cast Iron Fry Pan is just another one of the more innovated products that is on the market today. This skillet that is pre-seasoned with a vegetable coating will create a natural non-stick surface. It is very east to clean with just dish soap and water. You can use this skillet to cook just about everything that you like over any kind of heat(Electric,Gas,Etc,). This skillet is also safe to use in the oven. This high quality cast iron skillet is rust free,so you know that it will last you a very long time. We grew up using a cast iron skillet,so I know that it cooks food better, but the one that is on the market today is much better and I know the foods will taste great especially fried foods. I would highly recommend this skillet to anyone that is looking for a low cost rust free cast iron skillet that will last you a very long time. You will not be sorry with your purchase of this product.

A pan that will last for generations
I really like the look of the pan and the pretty design on the handle. I haven't had the pleasure of working with a true cast iron skillet in probably 40 years or more, so I was looking forward to cooking, frying, and baking with this large, heavy pan. It's good that they include lots of instructions on how to season and clean the pan since it's been awhile. Even though the pan says it's pre-seasoned (almost all do these days), you do need to go through the process of cleaning, drying, oiling and baking the pan. So give yourself enough time to do this. After baking my pan for the required one hour, I just left my pan in the oven overnight to cool thoroughly. In the morning, it looked like a well-seasoned pan that was ready to do some work. Picking up this hefty pan is made easier with the extra handle. The two pour spouts on opposing sides are larger and deeper so that delicious home-made gravy slides out the spouts as planned and not down the sides of the pan. I made upside down pineapple cake in the pan and it tasted fantastic. The cake did stick a little as I tried to remove it from the pan, as you can see from the picture. But that might have been partially my fault, as the instructions said to only wait 10-15 minutes before turning out the cake onto a plate. I had to wait about 30 minutes before someone could help me. Did I mention that this pan is really hefty? If I had been thinking, I could have put the pan over a low burner for a couple of minutes to remelt the sugar and that might have allowed the cake to fully release from the pan. It's not like that section of the cake was really stuck to the pan, it actually shifted around before I removed it with a spatula. I also fried some potatoes in this Timeless Fry Pan and they were every bit as crispy on the outside and soft on the inside as I remember from my childhood. If you haven't had fried potatoes in a cast iron skillet, you are truly missing out on a delightful treat! I decided to try some cast iron spiral skillet potatoes, made with thinly sliced potatoes arranged in a ring around the pan. Then the potatoes are fried for a few moments on the top of the stove and finished in the oven. It looked perfect when I removed the skillet from the oven, but when I turned it out onto a plate (with the help of my daughter), parts of it stuck. Sort of like my upside down pineapple cake. Perhaps I didn't do a good enough job when I first seasoned the pan. I really enjoy this pan, but to be truthful, it's quite heavy for me and the cleanup/season process is a bit much for me. But I have to admit that this is a heavy, well made, nice looking cast iron skillet and it will be in my family for generations.

Pioneer Woman Pre-Seasoned Plus 12inch Cast Iron
This 12 inch Cast Iron pan by Pioneer Woman is wonderful. It is Pre-Seasoned, but because I have had trouble with my smaller cast iron pan - I pre-seasoned it again before I used it. I made steak first, so I pre-heated the pan in a 500 degree oven for 1/2 hour as suggested by one of my favorite cooking shows. Then I put it on the stove and added a pat of butter and the seasoned steaks. I turned them over every minute until they were medium rare on an instant read the thermometer that I bought at Walmart. The steaks were seared on the outside and perfect on the inside. The steaks were delicious. This was my first real success with a cast iron pan and since this one is 12 inches it had plenty of room for the 2 steaks. I let the pan cool completely before I washed it as per the instructions that came with the pan. I just rinsed the pan with very hot water and I dried it thoroughly then I spread a thin coat of vegetable oil on it with a paper towel. I placed paper towels under and above the pan so the other pans would not get any of the oil on them. Before I used it again I washed it gently with hot soapy water and pre-seasoned it. A couple of days later, I repeated the oven procedure and after a 1/2 hour in the oven I made a stir-fry on the stove-top. Since the pan was pre-heated the stir-fry cooked up very quickly. The cast iron skillet needs more care and some pre-thought, but the end result is definitely worth it. The more I use it the better I like it. I'm going to buy a cast iron cook book at Walmart so I can use this pan even more. I am careful not to use abrasive scrubbers even with stuck on food. I let the pan soak in very hot water for a little while and the stuck on foods comes off. The abrasive scrubbers will take off the protective finish and it will rust. To prevent that you must always dry the pan thoroughly and re-season it right away. Take good care of it and it will make great food for you.

    Heavy Duty Cast Iron Pan
This piece of kitchenware is no joke. Keep in mind (and think back decades ago) that this was standard fare. Heavy duty. Since pan and its contents will be difficult for some to lift and carry, place on a trivet or potholders by range and dish up from there. Great instructions for ‘seasoning' your new pan. Follow these instructions to the letter. As pictured, there's the home fries I did in under 10 minutes. So much tastier than the non-stick cookware. Cleanups are a breeze. Again, check and adhere to the simple rule of thumb (ROT) provided. Why, oh why can't everything be of such HIGH quality? Remarkable.
